Second Rate 03:59
No one tells you what to do Unless they know a thing or two About what lies behind the image on the screen All the deep frustration of your dreams It doesn’t make much sense… But you’re lost in the present, you can no longer see beyond the faces you’ve been. Should you take what’s in front of you, leave it behind and concede to the grip of the second rate? Searching for a narrative To substitute for what you really did When I caught you turning upside down and front to back In opposition to the facts It’s hard now to believe in what went before: Hoping for a future while crawling on the floor. The disappointment hides a sense of relief No more hidden voices mocking your complicity Retaining information made you feel oh so smart [Dreams were unbecoming] Then the constant repetition [Dreams were unbecoming] Of sustaining contradictions made you fall apart It doesn’t make much sense… Cos nothing you ever did made you believe you were right for the future Now you’re lost in the present, you can no longer see beyond the faces you’ve been. Should you take what’s in front of you, leave it behind and concede to the grip of the fourth not third not second rate? It’s hard now to believe in what went before: Hoping for a future while crawling on the floor. The disappointment hides a sense of relief No more hidden voices mocking your complicity Dreams are unbecoming Hope is unbecoming You are unbecoming Stop the unbecoming

When nothing seems so real as everything that’s make-believe where no one tells the truth. You don’t know which way to turn for confirmation you’re not wrong now denial’s the only proof. There’s conviction everywhere, still nothing as convincing as what you felt before. Cos the power of deceit - it takes you in and leaves you lost, not knowing what you saw. Well, certainty is still possible When it’s just a simple of case of either B or A Cos when something’s really black or white Why are people selling me shades of grey? When nothing seems so real as everything that’s make-believe where no one tells the truth. Still don’t know which way to turn - you start to feel you’ve got it wrong and so much left to learn. But certainty is still possible When it’s just a simple case of either B or A. [There is no in-between] Even all the things I used to know [Chance or were you to blame?] I take them with a pinch of salt – like everything you say. [Tell me what you really mean] Duty or just a game? There is no in-between Cos when something’s really black or white [Differences look the same] Why are you still selling me shades of grey?

Staring in wide-eyed wonder at things beyond all I can understand All that they find so easy to be is not natural in my hands Yet you cannot deny, each insanity’s just different reactions to the same demands. When holding on gets hard it’s easier to just let go (And disappear) And falling into madness makes more sense of what you know to be so true. Taking something from nothing, I separate from all the nonsense I leave behind. Strange conflicts of truth that shatter the heart of all that was mine. Now they set me free from webs of deceit to a simplicity your complex equations never will define. Falling into madness Bright lights in the darkness To lead me on into senselessness Delusions of what might be Now fading into memory There’s nothing left here for me. If I disappear, would you not miss me, would you see me? If I disappear, would you believe me, would you hear me? As I disappear, you do not hear me, you don’t miss me As I disappear, you do not see me, you don’t believe me When I disappear, you won’t believe me, you won’t hear me When I disappear, you will not miss me, you won’t see me fade away. When holding on gets hard it’s easy to let go And madness makes more sense of everything you know.

Floating in space we only see beauty A planet at peace, no fight to survive, no borderlines. Bathed in the light of the eternal It’s easy to see that all is potential. Cos the truth of it is nothing can harm me And every path leads me home at the end of my journey Next time I won’t hide – influence your mind Next time I won’t lose – always free to choose Next time I’ll move on to one hope, one life, one joy. - - - - - - - - Time hits, memory slips, takes a moment to recognise who she is Imprisoned in her new disguise, then summons the courage to step outside It’s like crash landing in another world no memory remains of the place she came from Tastes the fear as senses collide and the violence threatens to suffocate her. In the chaos around her, she knows she will flounder, Staring hard through slitted eyes, can’t see the wood for trees. The sense of an ending - almost overwhelming Till disconnection from intention brings her to her knees. Tunes in, mind zones out as she gives in to the media storm That feeds her what she’s supposed to hear and drowns out the noise of distant war Cos every single day is a constant fight to pick an easy path between broken promises She’s falling fast as she loses touch with everything inside that could help to save her But sometimes she remembers all that’s behind her In stolen moments lost in nature, smiling at the moon. Then dreams of forgiveness leave her in pieces. This time I can’t win This time I’ll get by as fragments left behind This time I will hide – deep within your mind This time there’s no choice – never found a voice This time I must hold on In the chaos around her, she knows she will flounder, Staring hard through slitted eyes, can’t see the wood for trees. The sense of an ending - almost overwhelming Till disconnection from intention brings her to her knees. But when she remembers all that’s behind her She’s lost in nature, crying at the moon but no one hears her pleas.

No Accident 06:33
If life is what you make it, I’m gonna need some glue To put it back together, try to make it new. Something unexpected could mend my broken heart I’m going through the motions waiting for life to start. So conscious of the real thing and what I should become I made the right decisions when I was twenty one Before all that I believed in, the battles that I fought Were diluted in the mainstream to be half-accepted thought. Although I try to change And the letters rearrange The message stays the same – and that’s no accident Even in my fantasies Everything I try to be Is tempered by reality – cos nothing happens accidentally. At times it’s hard to notice the good things in the bad What used to make me happy, now seem to make me sad. I look for illumination beneath the exit sign Is it lighting the potential or just candles for when you die? Ideas come and go Like all the things I used to know Until there’s nothing left – and that’s no accident Living literally Can make it hard to see What the story meant – and that’s no accident So although I try to change And the letters rearrange The message stays the same – and that’s no accident Even in my fantasies Everything I try to be Is tempered by reality – cos nothing happens accidentally. Every choice and all decisions make a life not chance nor accidents.

Roll up, roll up for your last and only chance to see The greatest show on Earth. Hear children cry as the show leaves town They know it won’t return. The money man sits laughing Watching as the world burns And as global madness finds a new revival The prophet writes the next verse (in the Bad News bible) Life – we all belong here Live and let live cos we all know Now it’s time, time to start the healing And take our place in the greatest show on Earth. Come see the beasts, watch them play and recognise Our most innocent selves. Now see them die - make your choice, there’s a huge supply As much as you can buy. If we understood their thinking And felt pain every time we hunted them Do you think we’d realise, as life passes from our bright eyes, We’re suffering for the greater good of humankind? Life – we all belong here Live and let live cos we all know Now it’s time, time to start the healing And take our place in the greatest show on Earth. Can’t you hear the cries of Mother Earth calling, calling? Can’t you see the tears of Mother Earth falling, falling? Clinging to our creature comforts Using precious resources as the means to destroy us. Why does human wanting mean human taking? We must learn the way of simply human being. The countdown to annihilation, The curtain call for all creation, The closing scene to end everything, The final act has begun But the show must go on. Can’t you hear the cries of Mother Earth calling, calling? Can’t you see the tears of Mother Earth falling, falling? We all belong here Live and let live and share the Earth Now it’s time to take our place in what might be The greatest show in the universe!
